What Windows Terminal actually is

wt, not the leftover console host by itself.

A newspaper still of Windows Terminal
Lesson 1 is on the house. Tabs, profiles, a settings file.

Here's the short version. Windows Terminal is Microsoft's modern terminal app. You start it with wt. It is not the old console window by itself — that host is still around, and Terminal can talk to it — but Terminal is the new front: tabs, panes, GPU text, a JSON settings file, profiles for PowerShell and cmd and WSL.

If you grew up on a black box that couldn't tab, this is the replacement that still speaks those shells. We're teaching the app, not a break-in. Glyph's rule holds on this desk too: the craft, never a how-to for unauthorised access.

The command that opens Windows Terminal. One word. That's the door.

Quiz

What is Windows Terminal?

Check

Type the command that opens Windows Terminal.

Next we split the window. Tabs first, then panes. Phone-first reading; the app itself is a desktop window.
