You’re turning a Cardan grille. A 4×4 card with four holes — one per row and column. Lay it on the square, write through the holes in row-major order, turn 90° clockwise, repeat four times. The four orientations never collide. They cover all sixteen cells.

Holes before any turn (row, column; 1-indexed): (1,1), (2,2), (3,4), (4,3)
